And for experience I'd add: some extra batteries, because your cellphone/camera will always leave you alone in the worst moment

You'r right I always bring either my iPad or iPhone when i travel. They are great when you just checked into the most horrific hotel and need to book another room right at the spot.

My favourite spot for a sunny lunchbreak: washington square park! the close university makes it relaxed hangout for students, also you will find some drummer or musician there for sure. Last time: live piano-music in the open air on a january morning!
